Beyond the ordinary
Queensland Māori Sports Incorporated (QMSI) is a kaupapa-driven organisation uniting our four districts, Nga Toa O Te Raki, Te Hau Marangai, Te Hau Taitonga and Te Hauauru Ki Tawhiti, through sport, culture, and community.
Founded to uplift our rangatahi and whānau, QMSI creates pathways that strengthen identity, connection, and pride in who we are as Māori. We are the foundation behind the Ngā Hau e Whā (NHEW) campaign, bringing our people together to represent their rohe and celebrate our culture.
In 2024, we expanded this vision through Te Whenua Ariki (TWA), welcoming teams from across the state and beyond, further growing our kaupapa and connections.
Through NHEW, players have the opportunity to be selected for Queensland Māori, competing annually at QPICC, showcasing talent, discipline, and cultural pride.
QMSI continues to stand as a foundation for Māori sport in Queensland, building stronger people, stronger culture, and stronger communities.

Core Beliefs & Values
At Queensland Māori Sports Incorporated (QMSI), our core values are grounded in whanaungatanga (connection), kotahitanga (unity), manaakitanga (care), and rangatiratanga (leadership). These principles guide everything we do, ensuring our people feel connected, supported, and proud in their identity.
Our purpose is to create meaningful pathways for our rangatahi and whānau through sport, while strengthening cultural identity and community ties across Queensland. We aim to provide opportunities that go beyond the field, building confidence, leadership, and a sense of belonging.
Through initiatives like Ngā Hau e Whā and Te Whenua Ariki, we bring our people together, celebrate our culture, and open doors for representative pathways such as Queensland Māori and QPICC.
Ultimately, our goal is to uplift our community, empower our next generation, and create a strong, united Māori presence in Queensland for years to come

Who Benefits from our organisation
Our rangatahi are at the heart of everything we do, alongside their whānau and the wider Māori community across Queensland.
We support them by creating safe, inclusive spaces where they can engage in sport while staying connected to their culture. Through initiatives like Ngā Hau e Whā and Te Whenua Ariki, we provide opportunities to compete, build confidence, develop leadership skills, and strengthen their sense of identity and belonging.
Beyond the field, we foster whakawhanaungatanga, bringing communities together, encouraging mentorship, and creating pathways into representative opportunities such as Queensland Māori and QPICC.
Ultimately, our focus is on uplifting our people, using sport as a vehicle to empower our rangatahi, strengthen whānau connections, and grow a proud, united Māori community in Queensland.
"As a parent, I just want to say how grateful I am for what QMSI has created. My tamariki were born and raised here in Queensland, and opportunities to truly connect with their culture don’t always come easy, but through this kaupapa, they were able to stand proud in who they are.
Watching them take the field, not just playing sport but embracing their whakapapa, building friendships, and feeling that sense of belonging was something really special for our whole whānau. It wasn’t just about the game, it was about identity, connection, and pride.
This experience has given my kids confidence in who they are as Māori, and as a parent, that means everything. Ngā mihi nui to everyone involved in making this happen, you’ve created something truly powerful for our tamariki and our future generations."
